  • Reports from Abroad: Matthew Halton
CBC correspondent Matthew Halton reported his views over the radio to Canadians from Europe during the Second World War. His colourful way with words created pictures of great events for the Canadian public and kept them grounded in the events of the world. In these activities, students will explore Matthew Halton’s reflections about Canada and identity before expressing their own opinions on the topic, create an art work to illustrate a metaphor used by Matthew Halton in his reporting, analyze the value of human interest stories reported during war-time, investigate and analyze the ethics of accuracy in news reporting, and compare and contrast war-time news reports and analyze their impact on an audience.
