In November 1999, Nancy Greene is named Canada's female athlete of the century. The Canadian Press and Broadcast News conducted the survey that ranked Greene ahead of rower Silken Laumann, skater Barbara Ann Scott, biathlete Myriam Bédard and rower Marnie McBean. "I was kind of stunned, but it's been a very exciting time for me," she tells CBC Radio. "It's a little bit humbling, I mean to be chosen among all of those wonderful athletes."

• 145 ballots were counted in the survey; Greene received a total of 40 first-placed votes.

• Team Canada, winner of the 1972 Summit Series, was named Canada's team of the century. Hockey player Wayne Gretzky was named Canada's male athlete of the century.
