A Saskatoon man's hopes to hold his six-month-old son for the first time after the boy's mother tried to give him up for adoption have been dashed.
The first visitation arranged for the man, who cannot be identified because of a publication ban, was scheduled for Saturday.
But the man said he received a call on Friday from Family Justice Services, the provincial agency responsible for organizing the meeting, telling him the visitation had been cancelled.
The agency told him an appeal of the visitation order had been launched and that judgments can't be enforced while they are being appealed.
The man and his fiancée want to raise the child, but the baby has been in the custody of a Prince Albert couple since he was born in late April.
The Saskatoon man's former girlfriend signed over custody to the couple and said the father's identity was unknown. A DNA test has since proven the man is the baby's biological father.
A pre-trial hearing will begin in Saskatoon next month to help establish who will win the right to raise the boy.
