Canadian comic performers to celebrate at annual awards

The best in Canadian comedy will be celebrated Friday at an annual awards gala in London, Ont.

The Canadian Comedy Awards honour excellence in film, television and live performance.

The awards show is among the highlights of a five-day comedy festival that has been held in the southwestern Ontario city since 2003.

Organizers will hand out awards in 20 different categories.

Each year, the winners are voted on by 18,000 performers and industry members from ACTRA, the Canadian Actor's Equity Association, the Directors and Writers Guilds, and the Comedy Association.

A selection of comedy showcases will follow Friday evening's awards gala, with a Canadian Comedy Gala Review also scheduled for Saturday night.

Scheduled for broadcast by The Comedy Network and hosted by comedy writer, actor and former Kids in the Hall star Mark McKinney, the review will also include performances by the cast of CBC-TV's Royal Canadian Air Farce and comedians Mike McDonald and Derek Edwards.
