She's been described as the best woman hockey player on the planet. Dubbed the "female Wayne Gretzky," Hayley Wickenheiser would make history in 2003 by becoming the first woman ever to register a point in a men's pro hockey game. But it was just dream for the 15-year-old Wickenheiser back in 1994. In this CBC interview, the rising hockey star talks about how tough it would be to break into professional hockey because of her size.

• Wickenheiser was born on Aug. 12, 1978, in Shaunavon, Sask.
• She started playing hockey when she was five.
• At age 15, she became the youngest player to make the women's national hockey team.
• Wickenheiser was a member of Canada's national softball team at the 2000 Sydney Games.

•Hayley Wickenheiser helped Canada win gold at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and was voted its Most Valuable Player.
•In 2003, the 24-year-old forward scored a goal and set up two assists playing for the Finnish second-division club, Kirkkonummi Salamat (Lightning), becoming the first woman to register a point in men's pro hockey.

• If Wickenheiser is dubbed the Wayne Gretzky on ice, her teammate Cassie Campbell, the captain on the gold medal winning national team, is often called the Wayne Gretzky off ice. Articulate, attractive and a tireless promoter of women's hockey, many credit Campbell for breaking the butchy stereotype of the female hockey player.
