A Circle of Friends : The Pride of Giving
Let’s go to the Parade!

Last June 24, the mood was festive in the Great Hall of the National Gallery of Canada! In a shower of balloons, patrons, dignitaries and Gallery employees had the pleasure of taking part in the official opening of The Great Parade, Portrait of the Artist as Clown, this year’s summer exhibition, which will end on September 19.

Hundreds of people attended the event held in the NGC’s Great Hall

The exhibition was a big hit, and the Museum and its Foundation wish to thank the American Express Foundation, a longstanding partner and official sponsor of The Great Parade, for its generous support.

Saying thanks for Forest Landscape!

On Saturday 15 May, the National Gallery of Canada Foundation hosted an event for Circle patrons in appreciation of their generous donations toward the recent acquisition of Forest Landscape by Emily Carr.

Guests had an opportunity to casually meet and mingle with other Circle patrons as well as Gallery and Foundation staff. Following welcoming remarks by Director Pierre Théberge and President and CEO of the Foundation Marie Claire Morin, they were treated to a private viewing of the painting with Charlie Hill (as seen in the photo), the Gallery’s Curator of Canadian Art. He discussed the painting in terms of the Canadian art scene of the day, as well as in relation to Carr’s other works, and in particular to two oils on paper by Carr that also had been installed in the Canadian Galleries for the occasion. The Gallery and its Foundation take this opportunity to thank all individual and corporate Circle members who generously contributed to this exceptional acquisition.
