The reopening of a regional weather forecasting station for Newfoundland and Labrador has been pushed back.
Environment Canada had hoped to move public forecasting back to Gander from Dartmouth by November, but delays in renovations and staffing transfers are pushing that back.
"The target for the starting of the public forecast is December," said Dave Wartman, the director of Atlantic operations.
"There's a possibility that could slip into early January, and that's going to depend upon the exact completion date for the facility."
The Conservatives promised to restore full services at the Gander weather office during the last federal election campaign, sparked by a union-sponsored petition that attracted 125,000 signatures — including one from Tory Leader Stephen Harper.
After winning the January election, Prime Minister Harper made good on the pledge in April, although the federal government later announced that aviation services will not be returning to Gander.
Public forecasts will come on stream first. Marine forecasts are scheduled to return to Gander by late spring or summer.
Forecasting services had been transferred out of Gander in 2004 by the former Liberal government.
