HIGH TECH TOUTONS!
Each week we'll be offering up some tasty turns on Newfoundland ingredients. Gerry Rogers mixes some drinks - jam packed with healthful anti-oxidants! - for High Tech Toutons.
Gerry's recipes:
Drinking the Blues
Ice cubes in a shaker
2 oz vodka, poured over ice.
Shake gently.
Strain and pour into a chilled martini glass.
Add 1 tsp blueberry elixir* to the glass, which sinks to the bottom.
Top with 1 plump, frozen blueberry.
Blood of the Barrens
Ice cubes in shaker.
2 oz gin poured over ice.
Stir or swirl gently.
Strain and pour into a chilled martini glass.
Add 1 tsp partridgeberry elixir*, it will sink to the bottom.
Top with 1 plump, frozen partridgeberry.
A festive season option would be to decorate the side of your glass with a little lime zest.
* The Berry Elixirs
Boil your berries until thick, somewhat like making jam, but use maple syrup instead of sugar. Strain both elixirs. Good for even without the vodka or gin! Gerry Rogers is a filmmaker living in St. John's.
BRANDING RE-MIX:
Here is the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador rebranding audio. Have fun incorporating this into your own remix, and we will announce a winning entry on a future show. Good luck!
