This Week:
Year of the War Bride

War brides arriving in Canada
Listen to an interview with Reenie Coakley and Anna Hillier (runs 11:14) Click to listen to RealAudio file.

For more than thirty years a group of Cape Breton war brides have been meeting to get their hair done. It is part of a lasting friendship that has cemented the group and made them more like family.

Guest host Ian McNeil stopped by the hair salon to chat with them about what made them want to cross an ocean to be with their new husbands.  They were among the thousands of women who arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax at the end of the Second World War.

Now, more than sixty years later, their memories remain sharp and their stories still move us.
