This obsolete word that is an adjective that comes from Latin horrisonus; horrere to be horrible + sonus a sound so it means to utter a terrible or horrible sound. With Halloween tomorrow evening it will be fun to see all the ghosts and goblins out and about, groaning and moaning and rattling chains having a fun time. So be safe out there and don't be afraid if a horrisonous humgruffin crosses your path!
