Welcome to Wildrose Country


Wild Rose Country is a provincial program heard weekdays from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on CBC Radio One (1010 AM in Calgary and 740 AM in Edmonton). Wild Rose Country, with host Donna McElligott, connects urban and rural Albertans by exploring the environmental, agricultural, educational and political issues affecting everyone from the far north to the deep south of the province.

Each Monday, Wild Rose Country is holding mini-workshops on health and well being.  Health professionals from Women's Health Resources in Calgary join us to share what they teach in their evening workshops. Every Tuesday, Wild Rose Country delves into the fascinating work  underway at Alberta's three research universities -- the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, and the University of Lethbridge.

Mike Robinson is the president of Glenbow Museum.  Every couple of weeks he become's Wild Rose Country's house "P.I." or public intellectual and share some of his big ideas.  This time, he questions whether we should be turning our social responsibilities over to the foundations started by the world's billionaires and celebrities.

Helen Corbett from Climate Change Central is on every second Wednesday with environmentally  user-friendly approaches to daily living.

On alternate Wednesdays Michelle Schoffro Cook, author of  The 4-Week Ultimate Body Detox Plan, published by John Wiley & Sons, Canada, provides holistic tips for excellent nutrition and health.  This time, Michelle provides some natural approaches to coping with inflamation.

Andrew Nikiforuk
shares his research every two weeks as Wild Rose Country's environment columnist.  This week, Andrew looked at the site of a major landuse battle, the Suffield National Wildlife Area.

That incorrigible word sleuth Bill Casselman, author of Canadian Words and Sayings, published by, McArthur & Company, traces the origins of an Alberta word or place name every two weeks.  This time, it's the word, "hoodoo".

On alternate Thursdays to Andrew's column, we talk water with Bill Berzins, the chair of the Bow River Basin Council and president of Fossil Water.  This time, Bill brought along Dan Woynillowicz, a policy analyst with the Pembina Institute to talk about the Athabasca River.

Foodie Cinda Chavich takes us on a culinary journey around the province on alternate Fridays.  On October 20th, Cinda talked about the best of the worst and where to find good sausage.

Once a month, Karen Anderson, the owner of Acquired Tastes Food Tours, provides culinary inspiration with a look inside Alberta's wonderful ethnic and farmers markets, and what to do with special ingredients.  This time Karen focused on pesto.
