A provincial court judge from Kamloops who was arrested at a Vancouver hotel earlier this year won't have to stand trial on a charge of causing a disturbance.
A special prosecutor has decided on a stay of proceedings against Balwinder William Sundhu, who will be diverted into the alternative measures program.
The judge will have to make restitution, which could include community service work and counselling. He may also be ordered to write an apology for his actions.
The charges could be dropped entirely after a year of good behaviour.
Sundhu, 47, was arrested at the Four Seasons Hotel in February by Vancouver police after they got a call about a drunk customer harassing staff. The judge spent the night in jail.
Sundhu has been on on the provincial court bench since 1996. He has been the chief administrative judge of the Kamloops region since last November.
