AFSC Commercial Lending helps Albertans turn their good ideas into thriving businesses - by providing financing when conventional financing is not available. Eligibility CriteriaThe Business must be:
Eligible AreaThe province of Alberta. Eligible ActivitiesAny business operating in Alberta for profit which manufactures or processes products or provides services to purchasers outside Alberta or which replaces products or services imported into the province. Alberta export consortia and trading companies may also be eligible. SummaryExport Financial Assistance helps businesses to obtain working capital loans and export credit guarantees to complete orders / contracts outside of Alberta.Assistance is provided through approved lenders. The lender will issue a commitment letter to the applicant including, if considered necessary, the requirement for an Export Financial Assistance guarantee. Loans guaranteed under the program are subject to a maximum of $2 million for any one business at one time. They are not to exceed the lesser of 90% of the direct cost to complete the contract or 85% of sales from the order or contract. An application for guarantee may be declined if the applicant or project is not considered economically viable or if the need for a guarantee is not deemed appropriate. A processing and documentation fee is paid by the borrower to AFSC when the guarantee is authorized. Financing in the form of term loans, partial guarantees of bank operating lines of credit, as well as assistance in the financing of export contracts is available. This assistance is provided, for the most part, to smaller businesses outside the metropolitan areas, which although viable, are unable to obtain financing from conventional institutions. Emphasis is placed on Alberta owned businesses which will create jobs, are introducing improvements in productivity or technology, or have export or tourism potential.
