To assist participants to create jobs for themselves by starting a business. To create additional employment opportunities in the community that might not otherwise be available. The Self Employment Program provides clients with formal instruction in business plan development, one-to-one business counselling, coaching, guidance and follow-up during business plan implementation. SummaryThe program provides support and training, including:
People who are receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits will continue to receive benefits as appropriate, and may also be eligible for additional needs-based grant assistance for training and living expenses to participate in the program if their EI benefits run out. People who receive Alberta Works Income Support may also be eligible for needs-based grant assistance. Normally, assistance for training and living costs will be available for up to 26 weeks.
