Agri-Processing Incentive Program

Agriculture Food and Rural Development - AFRD

This financial incentive program is designed to encourage projects and activities that promote value-added growth, diversification and improved competitiveness in the Agri-processing industry. It is intended to compliment existing programs of other supporting organizations and applicants are encouraged to investigate all options available to them. Eligible costs are for services / materials provided by a third party.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applications must be made prior to undertaking the project.
  • All offers of assistance are subject to provincial audit as to the expenditure of awarded funds.
  • The ability to successfully carry out the project is part of the assessment process.
  • A statement of expenditures including supporting invoices / receipts must be provided upon the completion of the project.
  • A report on the project is to be submitted with the above statement.
  • Unless otherwise negotiated, the findings, data or information obtained from the use of any grant becomes the property of the department.
  • Grants are usually made on a 50:50 cost shared basis with the applicant, up to a maximum of $15,000 being granted to any one company in a government fiscal year.
  • Priority must demonstrate a significant value-added contribution to the Alberta Agri-Processing industry and that add value to Alberta grown or raised agricultural commodities.

Summary

An authorized signing officer of the company or organization should submit a completed Application for Financial Assistance form, along with a project proposal to the Agri-Processing Branch, Business and Innovation Division, Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development.

  • Directories of Brokers, Food Consultants, Food Demonstrators, Food Photographers, Graphic Designers and Label Suppliers.
  • Directory of Alberta's Agriculture and Food Processors
  • Laboratories with Food and Beverage Testing Capabilities
  • Packing and Packaging Material Suppliers
  • Sources of Direct Mail Contacts.
