Anaheim 2, Phoenix 1

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Ilja Bryzgalov stopped 34 shots to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at Glendale Arena.

Teemu Selanne and Dustin Penner each scored a goal for the Ducks, who have won their first two games to start the season.

Zbynek Michalek scored the lone goal and Curtis Joseph stopped 23 shots in the loss for the Coyotes, who opened their season with a 6-3 victory over the Islanders on Thursday.

The Ducks scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

On the power play Shane O'Brien fired a pass from the high slot to the left side of the net, where Selanne redirected it top shelf for a 1-0 lead 2:15 into the contest.

Then with 2:15 left to play in the first Penner tallied a power play goal with Dave Scatchard in the box for hooking.

Bryzgalov turned aside all 10 shots he faced in the first period.

The Coyotes finally got on the scoreboard with eight minutes left in the second period.

On a 5-on-3 advantage, with Corey Perry in the box for hooking and Chris Pronger in for interference, Keith Ballard fired a pass from the top of the right circle to the slot and Michalek snapped a one-timer through a screen and into the net.

Joseph made eight saves in the middle stanza to keep his club within one.

The Anaheim defense shut down Phoenix in the final period and held the club to just 10 shots on goal, all of which Bryzgalov saved to preserve the win.
