Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Alexander Frolov tallied a goal and an
assist as the Los Angeles Kings beat St. Louis, 4-1, for their first win of
the season.
Lubomir Visnovsky, Michael Cammalleri and Brent Sopel each scored for the
Kings, who lost to Anaheim 4-3 in their season opener.
Anze Kopitar added three assists, while Mathieu Garon made 35 saves.
Martin Rucinsky scored the lone goal for the Blues, who have lost 11 straight
road games dating back to last season. Manny Legace yielded all four LA goals
on 30 shots.
After a scoreless first period, Visnovsky scored a power play goal with 8:12
left in the second period to give LA the first score of the game.
D.J. King was whistled for hooking at the 8:32 mark and the Kings quickly made
St. Louis pay, as Visnovsky took a feed from Frolov and one-timed it past
Legace.
Rucinsky's power play goal evened the score at 1-1, but LA answered with a
goal with 3:49 left in the second period. Patrick O' Sullivan fired a shot on
net that Legace managed to stop, but Frolov stuffed in the rebound to give the
Kings a 2-1 lead.
LA extended its lead to 3-1 in the third when Cammalleri took a pass from
Derek Armstrong and beat Legace just 14 seconds into the period.
Later in the period, Sean Avery sent a pretty outlet pass to a streaking
Kopitar, who skated the puck into the Blues' zone with a St. Louis defenseman
trailing closely behind.
Kopitar lost control of the puck and couldn't get a shot on net, but he
dropped it off for Sopel and he scored with 4:36 left to play for the final
margin.
