Los Angeles 2, Dallas 3

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Jeff Halpern scored the game-winner with 3:44 remaining in the third period to lift Dallas over Los Angeles, 3-2, at American Airlines Center.

After receiving the puck from Jere Lehtinen, Halpern tallied with a wrister from the left side that flew high over the glove of Mathieu Garon.

Philippe Boucher and Stu Barnes also scored and Matthew Barnaby had two assists for the Stars, who have won four of five.

Rookie netminder Mike Smith stopped 32 shots, including 15 in the second frame.

Rob Blake and Tom Kostopoulos each had goals for the Kings, who have dropped five straight. Garon made 25 saves for his second loss of the campaign.

The Stars went up 1-0 on Boucher's slap shot at the 14:34 mark in the first. Barnaby and Steve Ott assisted the score.

Just 45 seconds into the second period, Los Angeles tied the game when Blake's slap shot on the power play found the net after assists by Michael Cammalleri and Dustin Brown.

Barnes used a wrist shot to put Dallas up 2-1 with 45 seconds left in the second. Barnaby and Boucher notched assists.

Kostopoulos' wrister knotted the game for the Kings 7:10 into the third. Oleg Tverdovsky and Derek Armstrong assisted.


Game notes

Earlier on Saturday, Dallas activated defenseman Matt Nickerson from the injured reserve list and assigned him to the Iowa Stars of the AHL...Dallas finished 0-for-7 on the power play while Los Angeles went 1-for-8 on the man advantage...The Stars won 53 percent of the face-offs.
