Ottawa 3, New Jersey 5

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Zach Parise, Grant Marshall and Sergei Brylin tallied a goal and an assist each as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Ottawa Senators, 5-3, at Continental Airlines Arena.

Jamie Langenbrunner and Erik Rasmussen also scored a goal apiece and Martin Brodeur made 27 saves for New Jersey, which snapped a two-game skid.

Antoine Vermette and Patrick Eaves registered a goal and an assist each and Dominik Hasek stopped 25 shots for Ottawa, which has lost two straight after a three-game winning streak. Dany Heatley also notched his 32nd tally of the season for the Senators.

New Jersey drew first blood 1:40 into the opening frame after Parise one-timed a pass from the right point past Hasek's stick side for a 1-0 lead.

The Devils extended their lead to 2-0 with 5:11 left in the first period while on the power play after Marshall deflected a shot from the high slot past Hasek.

New Jersey upped its lead to 3-0 less than a minute later after Langenbrunner threw a shot in front from the right circle that hit Ottawa defenseman Christoph Schubert's stick and caromed past Hasek.

Ottawa stopped the bleeding with 2:25 remaining in the first period after Vermette gathered a rebound in the slot and fired a shot that beat Brodeur glove side to make it 3-1.

The Senators climbed back within a goal 7:44 into the second period after Heatley one-timed a shot past Brodeur from below the right circle to make it 3-2.

New Jersey regained its' two-goal advantage with 23 seconds left in the second stanza while on the power play Brylin, who was camped at the side of the net, one-timed a shot past Hasek for a 4-2 lead.

The Devils pushed their lead to 5-2 just 2:59 into the third period after Rasmussen beat Hasek with a backhander from in front.

Ottawa pulled back within two 5:44 into the final frame after Eaves' shot from the point caromed off of a Devils' defenseman in front and past Brodeur to make it 5-3.

The Senators pulled Hasek with well over a minute left in the contest for an extra attacker but did not generate any scoring chances.


Game notes

New Jersey, which was shut out the past two games, snapped a seven-period scoring drought. The Devils have never been shut out in three consecutive games during their history...Brodeur has won six-straight home games and is 15-5-2 at Continental Airlines Arena this season...Hasek, who turned 41 Sunday, is 6-2-0 in his last eight starts against the Devils and had a three- game winning streak over the team halted...Hasek's last game against Brodeur was a 4-1 loss on Dec. 1, 2001, when he played for the Detroit Red Wings...New Jersey will host Carolina on Friday. Before that game the team will retire the No. 4 of former captain Scott Stevens.
