Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Corey Perry scored a goal and had two assists
to power the Anaheim Ducks past the Detroit Red Wings, 4-1, at the Honda
Center.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 21 saves while Chris Kunitz added a goal and
assist for the Ducks, who bounced back into the win column after losing their
last two games in the shootout. Anaheim is now 4-0-2 on the campaign and have
yet to lose in regulation.
"This was a sweet win, our best effort," said Giguere. "We played real well
and we are playing with confidence."
Dominik Hasek allowed four goals on 31 shots for the Red Wings, who have lost
two of their last three games.
Tomas Kopecky netted the lone goal for Detroit, which dropped to 3-2-1 on the
young season. Kopecky's tally was his first goal in the NHL.
After a scoreless opening period, Anaheim scored three power-play goals in the
middle session to take control of the game.
The Ducks scored 8:46 into the second stanza to take a 1-0 lead. On the power
play, Kunitz controlled the puck in the left corner and moved the puck to Ryan
Getzlaf at the top of left circle. Getzlaf then snapped a quick shot that beat
Hasek on his glove side.
Less than two minutes later, Shane O'Brien's first goal in the NHL gave
Anaheim a 2-0 edge. From the right-half wall with the man advantage, Teemu
Selanne slid the puck to O'Brien at the right point and he fired a wrister
that beat a screened Hasek for the power-play goal.
"We had four lines playing awesome," said Getzlaf. "They are a good team, but
we capitalized on our power plays and they didn't."
The Ducks then scored late in the second on the power play for a three-goal
lead. From the left point, Perry made a cross-ice pass down low to Kunitz in
the right corner. From a bad angle, Kunitz threw the puck on net and the disc
hit off Hasek's pads and crossed the goal line to make it 3-0 with 1:47 left
in the second.
Perry scored on his own rebound at the 13:40 mark of the final frame to make
it 4-0.
Detroit finally got on the board with 5:36 left in the game as Kopecky took a
feed from Dan Cleary in front and slipped the puck through the pads of
Giguere.
