Pittsburgh 4, NY Islanders 3

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Sergei Gonchar scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins over the New York Islanders, 4-3, at Nassau Coliseum.

With the score deadlocked at three, New York's Alexei Yashin got called for a hooking penalty 1:34 into overtime. Gonchar then fired a slap shot just inside the right post on the power play 3:33 into the overtime period for the game- winner.

Michel Ouellet, Nils Ekman and Evgeni Malkin also scored for the Penguins, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Malkin, the second overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, tallied his second NHL goal and added an assist. The Russian center played his second game since being sidelined after dislocating his left shoulder in a collision with teammate John LeClair in a pre-season game on September 20. Sidney Crosby added three assists.

"They had a good mindset going into overtime with the goal by Malkin, and he [Malkin] was pleased with the play of the defense at the end of the third," Crosby said.

Yashin, Mike Sillinger and Jason Blake scored for the Islanders, who lost their second straight in overtime. Yashin added a pair of assists in defeat.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 34 shots for Pittsburgh, while Mike Dunham blocked 32 for the Islanders.

Ouellet got Pittsburgh on the board 8:24 into the first period on a snap shot from just in front of the right post on the power play. Ekman next scored a wrister on the power play 4:55 into the second period for a 2-0 Penguins lead.

The Islanders then scored three unanswered goals in fewer than three minutes to take the lead heading into the third period. They got going on a fast break when Kozlov dropped the puck across the slot to Yashin, who fired a snap shot top shelf 15:43 into the second.

New York then tied the score, 2-2, as Sillinger lifted the puck off the netminder's left shoulder and into the net less than two minutes later.

New York got the go-ahead goal about a minute later on a rebounded shot that Blake wristed in from the edge of the crease just beyond Fleury's glove side.

Pittsburgh tied the score, 3-3, as Malkin fired a wrister through the five- hole from just in front of the right post.
