The Harmonized System (HS) Codes
The Harmonized System (HS) codes is an international method of classifying products for trading purposes. This classification is used by customs officials around the world to determine the duties, taxes and regulations that apply to the product.
Other Trade Classifications
The Tariffs and Market Access Division (EAT) at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade offers market access information to Canadian exporters such as:
- Tariffs, taxes, rules of origin and some entry procedures for Canadian goods being exported to foreign countries; and
- Labelling information on U.S. Food Product such as counselling on FDA/USDA food product labelling for the United States (FDA = Food Drug Administration; USDA = U.S. Department of Agriculture).
