MERX: Electronic Tendering Service

MERX is an on-line service that advertises government procurement opportunities to potential bidders. It is owned and operated by Mediagrif Interactive Technologies Inc that provides the service to the federal government under contract.

Eligibility Criteria

Anyone with Internet access can view notices and bid on federal government contracts as well as provincial and municipal government contracts.

Summary

Departments must use MERX for requirements subject to any of the trade agreements. Some are using it as well for other purchases. PWGSC also uses MERX to advertise requirements for printing services estimated at $10 000 or above, most goods and services estimated at $25 000 or above, and communications services worth $50 000 or more. It advertises requirements estimated at $100 000 or above for construction and leasing. It also advertises requirements estimated at $89 000 or above for architectural and engineering consulting. More and more of the Government of Canada's requirements are advertised on MERX about $5 billion annually.

MERX is accessible from any location in Canada. You have free access to view the notices of opportunities on the Internet and you pay a subscription fee for additional services.

MERX is accessible through the Internet and:

  • provides you with the necessary information to order bid documents;
  • features a menu, commands and search terms to help you find all opportunities related to your line of business;
  • provides information in regards to contracts advertised on the service, or which meet business rules satisfying award notification requirements of trade agreements;
  • allows you to identify other suppliers ordering bid documents to help you determine who your competitors are or to identify a bid partner;
  • operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in both official languages;
  • offers on-line support; provides information on other federal and provincial opportunities as well as U.S. and other international opportunities.
