Seattle SuperSonics starting centre Robert Swift has a torn anterior cruciate ligament that will require surgery and cause him to miss the entire 2006-2007 season, the team announced Friday.
"We're very disappointed for Robert, especially given all the hard work he put in this off-season," said general manager Rick Sund.

Swift sustained the injury during Wednesday's pre-season game against the Sacramento Kings.
The third-year centre has averaged 5.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 63 career games since being selected 12th overall by the Sonics in the 2004 NBA Draft out of Bakersfield (Ill.) High School.
Fortson barred from season opener
SuperSonics forward Danny Fortson was suspended for one game without pay on Friday for his flagrant foul on Sacramento's Ron Artest during Wednesday's pre-season game.
The incident occurred with three seconds remaining in the first quarter, when Fortson made what was ruled excessive contact with Artest's head and body during the Sonics' 103-88 home victory over the Kings.
Fortson will serve the suspension when Seattle opens its season at home on Nov. 1 against Portland.
