I have done the hard work
"I go to bed at night thinking about the Torino track and wake
up startled because I fear I'm missing something important. When I
see an Olympic commercial on TV, my heart quickens. At times it can
be so strong I have to tune it out and watch my Felicity DVDs
to calm down."
Old Dogs, Rocks, and Waterbugs
"What a year! Compared to winning in Salt Lake City in 2002, winning gold in Torino this year seemed to be a piece of cake.
I repeat seemed. Every player on the team and every staff member knows that that is not true."
And so I cried...
"I showed up at Lake Placid for our final training camp and felt
incredible dread the instant I arrived. For the first time since the
accident I stood at the top and didn't feel confident I could make
it off safely. Instead of wanting to rise to the occasion, I wanted
to cry."
Our training village
"I don't think I will ever forget the days leading up to my fourth Olympics, although I am exhausted at the moment. The camaraderie I feel from my team and the enthusiasm from the people in this small town will remain with me forever."
The Olympics: What a ride!
"It's over. Done. Like the feeling you get by lunch time on Christmas
day when your eight years old. When there's no more presents to open,
no more waiting, no more wondering. You got what you got and it becomes
either blazingly obvious that you didn't quite make Santa's 'nice'
list or you're reaping the rewards of a year's worth of being effortlessly
'good.'"
My four Olympic highlights
"I will never forget that feeling in the pit of my stomach before
my first race at this year's Olympic games. I stood transfixed on
the start line surrounded by my competitors, 18 of us shifting nervously
back and forth in the Italian sunshine."
Olympics great, food lousy
"The Torino Olympics were supposed to be the grand finale of
my nordic combined and ski jumping career. I went into the Olympics
as prepared as I could have been given the resources that Canadian
Nordic Combined athletes are allotted. I had overcome more than most
of my competitors, yet I am stronger than my average competitor. "
