Four Montreal hospitals have again been hit with outbreaks of the intestinal infection C. difficile.

Investigations have started at Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Fleury and Santa Cabrini, according to Radio-Canada. Verdun Hospital is being closely monitored.
The Montreal public health department says overall, the number of infections from the bacterium has fallen by 40 per cent compared to a year ago.
Fleury hospital reported 154 infections, which is 96 more than what would be expected in the 17-month period ended in January 2006.
Santa Cabrini Hospital had 106 cases more than was expected. At Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, the number of cases of C. difficile was 94 more than expected.
