Summary

The Nova Scotia Procurement Branch provides free information on procurement. See the documents How to Sell Your Goods and Services to the Nova Scotia Government and Nova Scotia Supplier Development. For more information about procurement activity, refer to the Atlantic Canada Procurement Agreement.

The government of Nova Scotia has a centralized purchasing system administered by the Procurement Branch of the Office of Economic Development. Departments have been delegated purchasing authority under some circumstances. Delegated limits are revised occasionally, and can be viewed on the web site. Within these limits, departments are able to purchase locally, without public tender.

All other procurement is done through Procurement Services. Tender opportunities are shown on the Procurement web page at http://gov.ns.ca/tenders. Procurement policy and process documents can also be read and downloaded at that same site.

Becoming a Supplier
Registration is not required in order to bid on Nova Scotia Government tenders. Tender opportunities can be seen at the department's web site at www.gov.ns.ca/tenders or at the Halifax Public Tenders Office (listed below). There is no charge for viewing tender opportunities.

Many tenders can be viewed, downloaded or (in some cases) bids submitted through the web site. If you do not have access to the internet, tender documents can be obtained from the Public Tenders Office. Some tenders require a deposit, bid bond, or other document; these are identified in the tender notice, and these tenders cannot be downloaded.

Departmental Functions and Purchasing Contacts
If you need purchasing contacts in the departments of the Nova Scotia government, please contact Procurement Services. The department maintains a database of internal contacts, and can make this information available to you on request. Please note that most purchases must be made through Procurement Services using public tenders.

A list of departments, agencies, boards and commissions in the Nova Scotia government is available from the Government of Nova Scotia web site: www.gov.ns.ca. In most cases, contact information is supplied.
