Craft Industry Development Program

The Craft Industry Development Program (CIDP) provides development support to the craft, gift and apparel sector to stimulate the creation of job opportunities and economic growth in the industry, especially in rural areas of the province.

Eligibility Criteria

The following groups are eligible for assistance under the CIDP:

  • Craft, gift and apparel producers
  • Craft retailers who have been in business for at least one year and are listed in the Newfoundland and Labrador Travel Guide are only eligible for the identification and promotional materials (see the Market Development Component)
  • Economic development organizations and their sub-committees; non-profit organizations in support of the programs and objectives of the CIDP.

Summary

Program Components

Professional Skills Development encourages new and existing producers to develop design, technical and business related skills, especially in the area of production.

Product Research and Development increases the competitiveness of products by incorporating enhanced product design and state-of-the-art technology into the product development process. Support is aimed at encouraging research and development which will lead to new products targeted to particular markets, themes or events.

Market Development is aimed at enhancing the professional image and marketing opportunities for the industry. This is accomplished by supporting market research, the design and production of promotional and identification materials, merchandising tools, promotional activities, and sales initiatives.

Production Expansion assists established and advanced producers to make the transition from current production methods to small batch production to meet proven market demand.

Cooperative Projects provides flexible support to clients demonstrating the desire to network or partner with others on short or long term projects.
