Eligibility CriteriaAll Canadian companies are eligible to register in the Virtual Trade Commissioner databases and the Canadian Company Capabilities to position themselves to benefit from international business opportunities.SummaryThe Centre uses a team approach to effectively link international opportunities with domestic capabilities. IBOC uses sources such as ITCan's Virtual Trade Commissioner and IC's Canadian Company Capabilities (Strategis) electronic databases to search out and engage Canadian companies in international markets. The Centre also communicates with a broad network of contacts in Industry Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, other federal and provincial departments and agencies, and industry associations in order to identify potential Canadian suppliers of products and services.IBOC's most value added service is the one-on-one contact that IBOC officers make with Canadian companies to determine their interests in responding to specific business leads. Interested Canadian companies are put in contact with the foreign buyers either directly or through the Trade Commissioners who originated the trade lead. The Centre provides timely, targeted trade leads to Canadian exporters. To date, IBOC has actioned over 45 000 trade inquiries and has sent follow up surveys on over 15 000 of these leads. With an overall survey response rate of 50%, IBOC has confirmed with Canadian companies that over $40 million in export sales have taken place and that an additional $40 million in potential sales are likely.
