AN INFORMATION SERIES

Saskatchewan Regional Economic and Co-operative Development has developed a series of fact sheets about the structure, organization, incorporation, and operation of co-operatives. The series also explores the flexibility of this unique business structure, and its application within a broad range of social and economic conditions.

The first three fact sheets provide basic information about:

• Choosing a business structure: how a co-operative compares with other types of businesses.

• The co-operative structure: how a co-operative business is structured and operated.

• Registration of a co-operative: the organizational steps and legal requirements to incorporate a co-operative in Saskatchewan.

The fact sheet about the registration of a co-operative includes a checklist of the necessary steps, and a description of the required documents.

The Request for Name Search and Reservation must be completed and submitted to the Corporations Branch, Department of Justice, to ensure the availability of the name you have selected for your co-operative. This should be done before you submit your incorporation documents.

The Articles of Incorporation and Notice of Registered Office documents, plus a set of your proposed bylaws, must be filed with the Department of Justice.
