Policy Branch
Policy Branch develops and maintains the policy framework that supports CIDA's mandate within the context of Canada's broader foreign policy objectives and interests. It also takes the lead on the management of Canada's foreign aid budget.
Policy Branch collaborates closely with other federal departments and organizations to ensure that government policies take into account the diversity of relationships that we enjoy with developing countries.
At the international level, the Branch seeks to improve the coordination of Canada's development policies with those of other donor countries. Branch staff represent Canada at international forums on development and ensure that international commitments are reflected in Canadian development policies. Scientific and technical specialists in Policy Branch provide professional advice within the Agency and represent CIDA in discussions with other government departments and in national and international forums.
Within the critical area of global issues, Policy Branch assists CIDA in moving forward the framework of the Millennium Development Goals. This unprecedented international framework provides a set of time-bound development goals and targets to which developing and developed countries committed themselves in 2000.
