Annex D - Forming partnerships

As a responsive program, the IPPP requires that the organizations take full responsibility for finding the best partners that meet their needs and interests. Finding the right partner can be difficult, and taking the time to do this may be as important as the project itself. Some suggestions follow.

For LAC organizations to find a Canadian partner:

  • Make use of existing networks, or develop contacts through participation in international conferences.
  • Review the databases of organizations available on the web (see below).
  • Contact one of the Canadian national Aboriginal organizations listed below.
  • Contact Canadian NGOs working in the area, which may know of or be able to help locate an appropriate partner.

For Canadian organizations to find a LAC partner:

The most effective development starts with an expressed need from LAC communities and organizations. Canadian organizations should focus on the means to make their areas of expertise known to LAC partners, allowing them to take the initiative to explore a partnership arrangement.

  • Make use of existing networks, or develop contacts through participation in international conferences.
  • Contact one of the Canadian national Aboriginal organizations, for their list of networks and contacts in LAC countries.
  • Self-identify with the IPPP Secretariat to be placed on a database to be accessible by LAC partners seeking Canadian counterparts.
