Within hours of the tsunami, more than a dozen Canadian departments and agencies responded to the devastation.Foreign Affairs Canada(FAC) coordinated, and led on the consular and political fronts. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)worked with aid groups to provide humanitarian aid and to plan reconstruction. A program to match some $200 million in private donations was undertaken. The Department of National Defence (DND) sent the DART team to Sri Lanka.
