8th Annual Spirit of the Capital Awards.
Minister Aileen Carroll presented the first Global Citizenship award to a Hillcrest Highschool student during the Spirit of the Capital Awards which took place on Thursday, June 2 at the Ottawa Congress Centre. Sponsored by CIDA, this new award was presented to Laila Adassi, 18, for her leadership and unwavering commitment to supporting the needs of people in her community. The award was the highlight of the event, which was organized by Child and Youth Friendly Ottawa. "Congratulations to the remarkable young Canadians who are accomplishing great things, demonstrating strong leadership and looking out for the interests of others all around the world," said Ms. Carroll. “CIDA proudly encourages youth to become active global citizens and to play an important role in helping Canada realize its development goals.”
