People choose a career in international development for different reasons: to develop a stimulating professional life; to travel; to teach and to learn; and to make a difference by contributing to change.
No matter what motivates you to work in international development, it's a great way to work with people in developing countries as they make a better life for themselves and their community. It’s a great way to become a global citizen.
Something for Everyone
Canadians who want to work in international development have several options. They can work with:
- the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA);
- a non-governmental organization (NGO); or
- a CIDA-supported multilateral organization.
Young people can find internships in international development through the International Youth Internship Program or take advantage of the Post-secondary Recruitment Program to join the Public Service of Canada.
