Welcome to Saskatchewan Weekend

COMING UP ON NOVEMBER 4th AND 5th

MUSIC…MAKES THE PEOPLE…COME TOGETHER

Join Dan Reynish for more of the widest variety of music that is available anywhere in the province on the weekend

And next week we will focus on Music: Music of the heart, of the soul, of the mind, but most of all, music for the ears.

And there might even be some chin music!

CHIN MUSIC?

There is a sentence in Stephen Crane's 1895 novel "The Red Badge of Courage" that reads: "There's too much chin music an' too little fightin' in this war, anyhow."

In baseball slang, Chin Music means a pitch that comes near the batter's face.

In music Chin Injeti is a member of the band Bass Is Base, and Colin Chin is also a performer, so we will actually feature Chin Music next week as well!

Join Dan for a weekend full of music!

MEANWHILE, IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO DAN FIDDLIN' AROUND…

Dan spent most of the summer trying to learn how to play the fiddle and he documented his efforts.

If you would like to hear them, you can go HERE to listen to the series with Dan's special guest tutors Natalie MacMaster, Gwen Hoebig, Ed Minevich, Cammy Romanuck, Angela Pickett, Donnell Leahy, Marla Cole, Jenny Lester and John Arcand - The Master Of The Métis Fiddle.

GO OUT & ABOUT FOR "A TOUCH OF EUROPE ON THE PRAIRIES"

Culture, heritage and spirituality blend in Gravelbourg, a small yet vibrant community found in south central Saskatchewan and Dan will take you Out & About for a tour at around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 5th.

Go Out & About with Dan and share some adventures without ever leaving the comfort of your radio.

So come as you are and join Dan Reynish once again this Saturday and Sunday on Saskatchewan Weekend.

Plus, the next Saskatchewan Weekend will continue to feature the widest variety of music that you will hear anywhere in the province; we will have our weekly look at WHAT'S GOIN' ON; there will be A MUSICAL ALMANAC; Dan will peel some new videos and DVDs on THE COUCH POTATO REPORT; there will also be another SASKATCHEWAN SONG and one more trip to the BIG BAND BOOM; and if all that isn't enough, we'll have two songs that will Get You Movin' (G.Y.M.); plus much, much more!

We'll also have the latest news, sports, weather, community events information, some well-placed merriment, and a few things you're not expecting! It's everything you'll need to enjoy your days off.

So please join Dan Reynish from 6 until 9 am on Saturday and Sunday for the province's only live weekend Morning Show. Saskatchewan Weekend, on CBC Radio One.

(All items, features, topics and songs are subject to change.)

Wondering about a particular piece of music you've heard on SASKATCHEWAN WEEKEND? Contact Saskatchewan Weekend.

Would you like to phone in a Public Service Announcement to let CBC Radio One listeners in Saskatchewan know what is going on in your community?

Here's how:

What do I say? Think of it as a 30 second friendly invitation to a neighbour. Start by introducing yourself, then describe the event, where it is being held (building and city), day and date, time and ticket information. If you give a telephone number, say it twice. Please try and keep your message close to 30 seconds so we can feature as many calls and events as possible.

Call 1-800-661-7540 and leave the message in two mailboxes. First, press 4 and then 2 and leave your public service announcement with Saskatchewan Weekend. Dial the 1-800 number again and press 6 for Down on the Corner (part of The Noon/Afternoon Editions). Please phone in the message at least 10 days in advance of the event.
