Reserving a Business Name

2. Name Reservation Request: Request a name and search to make sure the name is available for your use. Registration Guidelines
 
Business Name, Sole Proprietorship, or Partnership
Although many of these use the term "Partnership," you can use them for Sole Proprietorships and Business Names too. (Remember: A Sole Proprietorship is a "Partnership of one") Please check the definition to ensure it's appropriate for your business.
1. Application for Registration of a Business Name, Sole Proprietorship or Partnership in Nova Scotia: To register any Partnership, including a Sole Proprietorship or Business Name. Registration Guidelines
2. Change of Address: Notify the Registrar of any address change for: 1) the business (Civic or mailing); 2) any partnership members; 3) the owner(s) place(s) of residence. Registration Guidelines
3. Appointment of Recognized Agent: Appoint or change your recognized agent or the agent's address. Registration Guidelines
4. Notice of Change in the Proprietor or Partners using a Business Name registered in Nova Scotia Partnership: Change the partners in any Partnership. Registration Guidelines
5. Change of Business Name: Change the name of a Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, or Business Name. Registration Guidelines
6. Dissolution of Partnership: When a partnership dissolves, either all partners must sign or any one partner can have the form sworn and notorized. Registration Guidelines
7. Request for Revocation: Notify the Register that business operations in Nova Scotia ceased and to revoke the registration. Registration Guidelines
8. Statement to be Used for Registration of a Business Name for a Society: Register a business name owned by a Society. Registration Guidelines
  
Co-operative A co-operative is a user-owned and user-controlled business with a minimum of three founding members. It can be either for-profit or non-profit. It is a separate legal entity from the members so that liability is limited to the amount a member contributes to or invests in the co-operative.  Use the Co-operative Update Form to make changes (address, directors, etc.) at any time.

Limited Company To register a limited company, please visit How To Register. We recommend that you see your lawyer to arrange incorporation in Nova Scotia. Some, but not all, necessary forms are available below:
1. Statutory Declaration: A sworn statement signed by your legal representative or by the person who signed the documents used to form your company (memorandum and articles of association).  This form verifies the accuracy of those documents, and verifies that they comply with the Companies Act. Extra-Provincial Limited Company
1.

Statement of Extra Provincial Registration: (3 forms) For corporations who are incorporated outside of Nova Scotia or New Brunswick and who wish to engage in business in Nova Scotia.
