TEAM Work Opportunity Fund for Persons with Disabilities

The Opportunity Fund for Persons with Disabilities provides financial assistance to unemployed persons with disabilities to help them prepare for, obtain and keep employment or self-employment.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must be unemployed persons with disabilities living in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
• Applicants must be ineligible for other funding sources.

Summary

The Opportunity Fund facilitates and promotes the following types of activities (may include but are not limited to):

• Encourage employers to hire persons with disabilities whom they would not normally hire through the use of wage subsidies and other supports.

• Encourage individuals to accept employment through incentives such as short term financial or service support.

• Provide equipment/technical aids and/or accommodations necessary for an eligible participant to find and accept employment.

• Purchase specific services to help develop realistic and effective case plans and to make a person more employable (i.e. assessment services, anger management, limited specialized counseling).

• Enable individuals to increase their skill level through short term training.

• Assist with short term incremental costs that may occur with any intervention such as childcare, transportation, interpreters, job coaches, personal supports, accommodations, and discretionary one time costs as dictated by individual disability and circumstance.
