Increased security measures taken at Canadian Airports following
UK bomb plot

OTTAWA - August 10, 2006 - Following this morning's developments in London, United Kingdom, security at Canadian airports has been increased and additional security measures have been put in place. CATSA has put in place preventative measures in response to these events.

All passengers should be aware that no liquids will be permitted on board aircraft departing from Canadian airports destined to the United States and the United Kingdom. Exceptions include the following:

  1. Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling;
  2. Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket;
  3. Insulin and essential other non-prescription medication.

Passengers boarding flights to the United States will also be requested to remove footwear for additional screening. Footwear of passengers with disabilities and elderly passengers who cannot remove their footwear will be checked by trace detection equipment.

For the duration of these measures, passengers should allow themselves extra time for check-in as delays may occur.

For more information about items that are not permitted in carry-on or checked baggage, please visit http://www.catsa.gc.ca/english/travel_voyage/list.shtml, or call CATSA at 1-888-294-2202.
