FOUR BOARD MEMBERS
APPOINTED TO THE
CANADIAN AIR TRANSPORT SECURITY AUTHORITY
OTTAWA - Transport Minister David Collenette today announced the appointments
of Pierre Beaudry, Mary Martin, Murray Sigler and Darrel Smith to the Board of
Directors of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
“I am pleased that these four individuals have agreed to take on new
responsibilities with the Board of Directors. Their experience and expertise in
the fields of aviation, aviation security, business, and labour relations will
be an asset to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority,” said Mr.
Collenette.
Pierre Beaudry, of Aylmer, Quebec, holds a master of business administration,
and a law degree from Université Laval. He was appointed to the Civil Aviation
Tribunal by the Governor-in-Council in 1999. Mr. Beaudry is the former director
for Hughes Canada, and has served as a consultant for various organizations,
including Aéroports de Montreal, Industry Canada, and Bombardier Aerospace. A
member of the Quebec Bar Association since 1980, Mr. Beaudry also worked as an
air traffic controller for Transport Canada, and as a pilot-in-command for
Quebec Aviation Ltd. He was recommended by the Government of Canada, and will
serve a term of one year.
Mary Martin, of Richmond, B.C., has worked in the airline industry for more
than 30 years as a customer service representative. She has held several elected
union positions, including trustee, bargaining representative, and
vice-president with the Canadian Auto Workers Airline Local. Ms Martin also
represented the Canadian Auto Workers on the Executive Council of the B.C.
Federation of Labour. She was recommended by the labour community, and will
serve a term of two years.
Murray Sigler, of Calgary, holds a bachelor of arts, and a law degree from
the University of Alberta. He is the president and chief executive officer of
the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and the former president and chief executive
officer of the Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. He is also the founder and past
president of Altius Corporation, an independent management consulting firm. Mr.
Sigler, a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association,
was recommended by the Canadian Airport Council, and will serve a term of three
years.
Darrel Smith, of White Rock, B.C., received a bachelor of commerce degree
from the University of British Columbia. He worked for Transport Canada for 13
years, where he held various positions, including superintendent of civil
aviation planning, and regional controller of civil aviation. He has also worked
in the airline industry, serving as director of operation safety for Pacific
Western Airlines, group vice-president of operations for Canadian Airlines, and
senior vice-president of operations for AirBC Ltd. Mr. Smith was recommended by
the Air Transport Association of Canada, and will serve a term of three years.
“The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority is
responsible for several key aviation security services,” added Mr. Collenette.
“Transport Canada continues to work with the Authority and the aviation
industry to maintain a world-class aviation security system.”
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authorityis
a Crown corporation that operates on a not-for-profit basis. The Authority is
accountable to the Minister of Transport for the delivery of consistent,
effective, and professional service at or above the standards set by federal
regulations. Transport Canada continues to regulate and monitor the provision of
security services, with the Authority responsible for delivery of these
services.
