UPDATE on Increased security measures taken at Canadian Airports: restriction on fluids now apply to all flights
OTTAWA - August 10, 2006 - The additional security measures regarding the restriction on liquids in carry-on luggage, put in place by CATSA this morning, have now been extended to all flights departing from Canadian airports.
All passengers should be aware that no liquids and gels will be permitted in carry-on luggage on all flights departing from Canadian airports. Liquids and gels include common items such as shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency. Exceptions include the following:
- Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling;
- Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket;
- Insulin and essential other non-prescription medication.
Passengers boarding flights to the United States will also be requested to remove footwear for additional screening. Footwear of passengers with disabilities and elderly passengers who cannot remove their footwear will be checked by trace detection equipment.
For the duration of these measures, passengers should allow themselves extra time for check-in as delays may occur.
