The Fund: New Vision, New Partnership

Africa is at the centre of Canada’s cooperation agenda. Through the $500-million Canada Fund for Africa, Canada has taken a leadership role in responding to the first made-in-Africa vision for development, the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and the corresponding priorities of the G8 Africa Action Plan. Canada was the first G8 country to establish a fund specifically designed for these purposes. The Canada Fund for Africa initiatives are large-scale programs which are regional in scope, complementing ongoing CIDA programming in Africa.

such critical areas as peace and security, good governance, economic growth, the fight against HIV and AIDS, agriculture, water, the environment, and youth. The Canada Fund for Africa is fully allocated to specific initiatives supporting these priorities, virtually all of which are up and running. Only the Fund’s outreach initiative, the NEPAD Outreach Fund, continues to accept and fund proposals aimed at involving Africans in the implementation of NEPAD.
