About Mark Rheaume
As half of CBC Radio's Music Resources department (along with Dianne Collins), Mark Rheaume auditions thousands of new recordings for airplay every year - everything from independently produced albums by struggling artists to the latest releases from international superstars.
Born in Fort Smith, North West Territories, Mark grew up in Ottawa, where he bought his first piece of recorded music when he was eight years old (a 45 of Proud Mary by Solomon Burke).
A self-described "music freak", Mark graduated from the Broadcasting program at Algonquin College and joined the CBC in 1998. His first project for the Mother Corp was archiving the thousands of boxes and scripts left to the CBC Music Library by the late great Clyde Gilmour.
Besides presenting his monthly picks on Fresh Air, Mark has reported on music for Definitely Not the Opera, Here and Now, and Ontario Morning.
His syndicated music review column is carried on CBC stations across the country. Mark lives in Toronto with his wife Kelly and sleek black cat Cassius.
