5th Annual Accent on Toronto: The Laughs Are on Us!

Danforth Music Hall
Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 8 pm
Tickets are $25 and available at
Ticketmaster External Site at 416-860-8000

CBC Radio One, 99.1 presents Accent on Toronto 5, Toronto's only annual comedy concert takes place at The Danforth Music Hall.  This year's line-up includes:

Angelo Tsarouchas External Site - the King of the Danforth will be right at home hosting the show - Angelo is still in South Africa wowing them on the Seagrams tour - he recently was in Dubai touring with Jew and an Arab - my hand to god...!
Trevor Boris External Site - recently arrived from Winnipeg will have them rolling in the aisle with his take on his newly transplanted, single, gay Toronto experiences - Trevor's career has really taken off this year - he was a hit in Winnipeg and he too was in South Africa this year.
Gilson Lubin External Site - originally from Jamaica, Gilson likes to ponder why the candy makers made the black ones taste so bad...Gilson performed at Accent 3 - and On The Map
Debra DiGiovanni External Site - the host of Accent on Toronto 4, will once again regale us with her sex and the single girl in the city life - Debra was recently featured in a magazine article by the esteemed Andrew Clark as "one to watch" - well I've been watching and Deb's got a fantastic career ahead of her. One well knows CBC host remarked of Deb "she really should be in the US making buckets of money". But Deb loves Toronto, lucky us!
Deborah Kimmett External Site - writer and performer of "Wit with Wisdom" - Deborah has been featured on Madly Off in All Directions, The Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and is a reoccurring guest on CBC Radio's The Debaters.
The Black Roses External Site - a nefarious comedic folk duo that combines acoustic song with lively banter.  With their uniquely offensive subject matter, and own particular brand of Canadiana, they have won over audiences young (but not too young) and old (not too old).  They frequently perform at comedy clubs and festivals, and have been heard on CBC Radio One's So You Think You're Funny.
John Wing External Site - writer and performer in CBC Radio's Man Woman and Child, John has been a comedian for many years, appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson an amazing six times. John is also a poet, he has three published works of poetry - he is also a masterful singer/songwriter as you may have heard at the end of MW&C; over the past few weeks. The comedy of John Wing is like no other.....he takes his audience down a masterful path with one surprise after another.
George Koller External Site - George is our musical accompanist for the evening - his unique style and sultry bass adds a mellow sophistication to the evening - George can usually be found playing with Holly Cole, Moe Koffman and Dizzy Gillespie, but he has been with Accent for 3 out of the 5 years, and we are very pleased to have him back for our 5th Anniversary.

We Shall Be Released - A Celebration of The Last Waltz

Long before the Canadian recording industry got its start The Band paved the way for the Canadian pop / rock musicians of today. On the American Thanksgiving Holiday in 1976, after sixteen years on the road The Band said goodbye to their fans by staging an all star concert line-up. On the 30th anniversary of this event a torch will be passed to a new generation of Canadian artists as OnStage gathers together an all-star band that will pay tribute to the music of The Band and the artists that shared the stage with them back in 1976.

Hosted by CBC Radio's Matt Galloway, this all-star concert features performances by Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, Kathleen Edwards, Jason Collett, Luke Doucet, Tony Dekker, Oh Susanna, Dione Taylor and Paul Reddick.

Performance dates: November 22 and 23, 2006 at 8 pm
Location: Glenn Gould Studio in the Canadian Broadcasting Centre
Tickets: On sale now via phone at 416-205-5555 or online. $35 for adults; $30.50 for seniors and students.
Broadcast dates: November 24-26 on CBC Radio Two's In Performance.
