Integrated Services for Northern Children

The Integrated Services for Northern Children (ISNC) program is a commitment made by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines to provide a multitude of health, mental health and education services to children and youth living in rural and remote areas across northern Ontario. This includes Muskoka, Parry Sound, Nipissing, Manitoulin and all areas to the north.

Services are provided through an interdisciplinary team of professionals located in the six major centres of Northern Ontario (Timmins, North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay and Kenora).  These professionals provide outreach services to rural and remote communities across the north such as assessment, consultation and treatment services to children and their families.  Services are delivered in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner and as near to the child's home community as possible.

What funding and/or services are provided under this program? And who is eligible for this program?

Six interdisciplinary teams are linked to rural and remote communities by means of a network of Case Managers who provide a single point of access and the co-ordination of the program's specialized services.

The Ministry of Children and Youth Services provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychiatry, psychology, and case management to children and youth up to 18 years of age;

The Ministry of Education provides educational assessment and remedial strategies to children up to 21 years of age.

How do I apply for this program?

Parents can speak with their local schools or their local Case Manager who will assess the child with special needs and their family, and act as a single point of access to the ISNC program.
