ABOUT OSL

At the Core of DFO Priorities
The St. Lawrence Observatory (OSL) contributes to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) mandate by diffusing and presenting marine science information and results necessary to a better understanding and a well-informed use of the marine environment and coastal zones.

The OSL addresses also the current priorities of the DFO Science sector particularly by improving the communication of scientific knowledge and by fostering and enhancing collaboration with industry and universities.

Logo
The St. Lawrence Observatory logo represents the Earth, with the St. Lawrence area as the focal point. The elliptic trajectory symbolises technologies (such as satellites) that are now used for observation and surveys, allowing scientists to carry out global studies on marine ecosystems.

Level of Service
OSL Portal
The St. Lawrence Observatory team maintains and operates the OSL portal during regular business hours. The OSL has put in place a monitoring system in order to be notified of any Internet service interruption and has established procedures to ensure that the necessary actions are taken no later than the next business day.

Collaborators Web Sites
Certain databases and systems accessible via the OSL portal are under the responsibility of data producers and OSL collaborators who have the mandate to ensure their maintenance and to take the necessary actions should any service interruption occur.

Seasonal Services
Certain products and services are only available during specified periods on the OSL portal. In these cases, the availability periods of those services are clearly indicated on the OSL. Ex: Sea Ice Forecast, On-Line Scientific Buoys.
