Remote Sensing - Satellite Imagery

Welcome to one of the DFO web pages covering Remote Sensing and Satellite Image Analysis.

A variety of satellite based, calibrated image products. Products are available for the Canadian east coast as monthly (for some cases weekly) maps for the following parameters:

• JPL MCSST Images for sea surface temperature.
• LCSP SST Images for sea surface temperature.
• Ozone Images for total column ozone.
• CZCS Images for water colour/turbidity.

Selected facts about data sources, data interpretation, data limitations and science applications are given for both current image products and for research topics into future image products.

Selected science applications cover the entire spectrum from ozone in the ultra-violet, water colour in the visible, sea surface temperature in the infra-red through to ocean feature detection via a variety of microwave and radar sensors.
