Has someone you know done anything recently to help conserve, protect and/or develop Canada's recreational fisheries? If so, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans wants to hear about it!

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) developed the National Recreational Fisheries Awards program to honour individuals and organizations for their contribution to the conservation, restoration and enhancement of Canada's recreational fisheries and their habitat. These individuals and organizations have played, and continue to play, a very important role in sustaining and developing the recreational fishing experience throughout Canada.

Is this a new program?

No, the program was developed in 1989, and each year, DFO presents awards to individuals and organizations for their positive involvement in Canada's recreational fisheries.

What kinds of projects or activities is DFO looking for?

To see some of the projects and activities that won in the past, check out the Recipients page, where you will find last year's Award recipients, along with their stories and pictures.

Where do I begin? How can I nominate an individual?

Check out the Nomination Process, where you will find information on eligibility criteria, nomination requirements, and the submission deadline.

Who selects the Award recipients, and how many are selected?

See the Selection Process for details.

What does an Award Recipient receive?

Each Award Recipient receives a pewter medallion and lapel pin, both with Canada's Recreational Fisheries Awards logo, and a framed Certificate of Merit. Check out Awards & Awards Ceremony to view the award.

Remember: This individual or organization has done something great for recreational fishing in Canada - help us reward their efforts!
