Triton man fined $5,000 for fishing cod out of season

Springdale… Hubert Roberts and Toby Vincent, of Triton, NL, pled guilty in provincial court in Springdale on December 1, 2005, to fishing cod during a closed time and possession of fish taken illegally.

Mr. Roberts, head of the fishing enterprise, was fined $5,000 and Mr. Vincent was fined $2,000.

Seized at the scene and forfeited to the Crown were 19 codfish and a fish tray. The seized cod had been taken illegally using groundfish gillnets.

Fishery officers from the Springdale Detachment conducted a stakeout and apprehended Mr. Roberts and Mr. Vincent on November 16, 2005, at Head’s Harbour, near Pilley’s Island, following complaints of cod poaching activity in the Triton and Brighton area.

Grand Falls-Windsor
