Partnerships and Cooperation
Maurice Lamontagne Institute personnel is involved in joint projects and
works closely with several organizations such as
Examples of cooperation :
- St. Lawrence Observatory
: scientific data portal developed in partnership with Fisheries and
Oceans Canada, Economic Development Canada and Saint Lawrence Vision
2000
- Jardin Marin:
project developed in partnership with École Norjoli, Les Jardins de
Métis and the Maurice Lamontagne Institute and officially launched on
World Oceans Day, June 8, 2001. Its main objective is to promote the
importance of the St. Lawrence and the oceans. (Available in French
only).
- Ecotourism and data
collection: during its daily expeditions at sea, the
Explorama Discovery Center of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts collects
temperature, salinity and plancton biomass depth profiles. Equipment
and software provided by MLI scientists offer tourists interested in
oceanography a hands-on experience in data collection and
visualisation. In turn, the scientific information is forwarded to MLI
where it is validated and used by our scientists.
- Sentinel Fisheries
Program : cooperation between the fishing industry
and DFO in order to develop time series of abundance indices to be
used in the assessment process of cod stocks.
- Whales
On-Line - The Whale Researchers: cooperation between MLI
scientists and the Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals
(GREMM).
